Although I haven’t read this book I feel inclined to write a review of any book that recommends letting your child cry themselves to sleep and also reporting that your child may even vomit because of his persisitent cries for help!!! How anyone thinks this in humane is beyond me. What would society think if we heard an adult crying so hard for help and no one came to help them, but yet for a helpless baby whose only way to communicate is to cry, letting them cry it out is ok, and recommended by pediatricians!!! All parents out there, trust you instincts, when your baby cries, help them,, love them and make them feel secure and that you can be trusted. You are the expert when it comes to your child, not some pediatrician who hasnt’ even met your child. Yes, you will have lack of sleep, but didn’t you sign up for this when you became a parent. You can’t turn off your parent switch just because it’s more convenient for you to get some sleep. You are a parent 24 hours a day, do your job!!!

I can’t say anything different than the previous reviwers. This book is written by a child hating sadist! I can’t believe this man takes care of children’s health for a living. Just goes to show you that your pediatrician is probably absolutely clueless when it comes to what is best for your child.
Read Dr. William Sears books instead. There is not phsycological problem with you if you don’t want to see your child cry! Even in the movie “Gone With the Wind” Rhett Buttler fires a nanny who tries to make his daughter ‘cry it out’. He fires her on the spot! Go back and watch, good daddies care about their babies too, just like good mommies.
If your husband tried to blame not having sex on the fact that the baby is in the bed with you, I’d tell him that even if the baby wasn’t there you still would feel tired and worn out from a day with no help. Usually when they say it’s about sex, it’s the husband’s way of saying that you’re not giving him enough attention. Childish? Yes. Self centered? Yes. Should they feel guilty of wanting to put their own needs ahead of their child’s? Yes.
If he (and you) really want sex, drop the child off at the grandparents house for the afternoon and have some daylight sex instead of that same old boring 5 minutes right before you fall asleep! An afternoon to yourselves will give the grandparents time to bond with baby and it will give you time to have some real romance and connection. A much better option than kicking your child to the cold where the wolves can eat him (that’s what babies instinctivley feel).

Don’t buy this book!!!! I read this book hoping to learn to help my child sleep better. Instead I encountered a pathetic guide to ignoring and therefore abusing your child. The idiotic authors spend much of the book justifying and advocating letting your child scream in bed alone for an hour or more. When a child crys to manipulate or to just get its way, that is one thing. When a child crys alone in a room it is crying out of fear and lonleyness. Follow this book and you are telling your child that when he/she is in fear and in need that Mom and Dad will not be there. Tough it out on your own kid. We’re talking about someone who is totally dependent and that has only been in the world a few months. This is crazy! It is interesting that the authors spend a lot of time telling you that studies show that no psyhchological damage will result from leaving your baby alone for over an hour screaming in fear. For them to spend so much time discussing this tells me that they must have a little doubt themselves.
Ignore this pathetic guide to in-home child abandonment and love and protect your kid instead. A few hours of lost sleep comforting your child is way better than leaving him/her in fear wondering if anyone in the world loves them. Not to mention that time spent helping your child to sleep can be wonderful (and of course sometimes stressful) time.
How do such idiots get published? How do they face themselves in the mirror?

No need for letting a baby cry. Lots of need for structered naps. Why not look a little at nutrition and a little at spirituality? The “Dr.” comes from a “doctor’s” point of view. Native Americans used cradleboards that rocked the child naturally to sleep while suspended from a branch. Sounds archaic. Some new-agers use essential oils and diffuse “Gentle Baby” or “Peace and Calming.” I read, “Forget The Cures, Find The Cause,” and learned about the body, mind, and spirit of my children. They all sleep now, and so do I. I wish the doctors that write these books, Weisbuth especially, would do a little research they profess to be good at, and learn a more holistic approach to children’s health, and for that matter, ours.

THE SLEEPLESS NIGHTS ENDED UP BEING FOR ME NOT MY BABY AFTER I READ THIS BOOK! I FOUND THE ADVICE IN THIS BOOK TO BE SCARY AND DETRIMENTAL TO MY HEALTH AS A NEW MOTHER. BABIES ARE NOT MACHIENES AND SHOULD BE CARED FOR AND LOVED AND NOT LEFT IN A CRIB TO “CRY IT OUT.” AFTER READING THE FIRST FOUR CHAPTERS OF THE BOOK I RETURNED IT. DR. SEARS OFFERS MUCH BETTER ADVICE IN “THE BABY BOOK.” DR. WEISBLUTH INFERS THAT IF THE BABY DOES NOT GET ON A REGULAR SLEEP SCHEDULE BY 6 WEEKS OF AGE THAT THEY STAND THE CHANCE OF DEVELOPING ADHD OR LEARNING PROBLEMS LATER IN LIFE. THIS IS THE WORST ADVICE YOU COULD GIVE TO NEW HORMONAL MOTHERS. HAVING WORKED IN AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOR MANY YEARS I KNOW THIS TO BE COMPLETE BUNK! I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE, EVEN MY WORST ENEMY. TAKE MY ADVICE AND DON’T BUY IT. BUY DR. SEARS INSTEAD AND LOOK FORWARD TO A HEALTHY BABY.

There is nothing more important than a child’s health. But to ask that babies follow a schedule? I think that is somewhat pushing it!

Starting babies on a scheduled sleeping and eating habit might prove helpful and healthy in the long run. I think it is a good idea.
I think the idea of letting babies cry in order to adapt to a sleeping habit seems ridiculous. I can’t believe parents will agree to this.
